We have big shoes to fill!

 

Chairing an event or program is a great way to get involved in the school by working with other parents, teachers, students and staff to bring fun events and programs to our school community as well as to help raise funds to benefit all our students. It's a great way to make new friends, too! Some jobs are bigger than others, but many hands make light work. Grab a friend and chair an event together!

 

The following are programs that usually take place in the Fall and require some coordinating in the Summer or right when school gets started. We need to fill these positions first:

Afterschool Enrichment Coordinator- This is a yearlong position that coordinates the afterschool activities and coordinates with school, staff and parents. We need to fill this position ASAP as many programs start just a few weeks in to the school year. Could be a shared position and you get to have some input on the type of enrichment programs we offer our students. 

Reflection Program- Each year hundreds of thousands of students, throughout the nation, in preschool through grade 12 create and submit original works in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. The 2018-2019 theme "Heroes Around Me" will spark imagination and creativity in school and at home. Encourage students to imagine, create and celebrate with Reflections during National Arts & Humanities Month this October. We have several people who can help with this program, but no one has stepped up to take charge of it yet. 

Student of the Week- Good position for two to three 1st or 2nd grade parents to share as it is for 1-3rd graders. Would like to have at least one person continue for two years for consistency and to train incoming parents. Fun job as you get to give awards to the students and get them pumped up for school! This does require attending Friday assemblies however, if you have multiple people, you can share the time commitment.

The Works/Lost and Found- Looking for one more person to help with Lost & Found and coordinating volunteers for The Works. The Works is a clothing “store” that provides free, high quality, gently used and new children’s and teen clothing and hygiene products. Every year, The WORKS serves more than 1,000 Shoreline School District students with basic needs to support success in school.

Walkathon- One of our biggest fundraisers of the year! We need one more leader to help coordinate the event, prizes and fundraising. After all the funds are turned in, the job is done for the year. The previous coordinators are available to guide you through!

Holiday Food and Gift Drive- We have one person already signed up, but we need a co-chair. This program is part of a bigger District wide coordination to provide food and holiday gifts for families in need in our community. Timeframe is November- mid-December. If you haven’t been involved with this, it really is fun and amazing to see it all come together at the end. Seeing all the schools bring the food they have worked so hard to collect to one place and organize it for the families to come and pick up really gets you in the spirit of the season!

Watch Dogs- We haven’t had this program for a couple of years and are so excited to see it return. We have a dad who will lead the charge, but now we need dads, uncles, grandpas, family friends to volunteer for a day. WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative father involvement, educational initiative of the National Center for Fathering. The program goals are to provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important as well as to provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying. There are several more positions to fill, but these are positions we need to cover first.
